Startup Day

First Startup Day attracts a lot of attention

The first Startup Day of the NEDS 2020 Digital is a fact. With 185 attendees, 20 startups, 5 digital breakouts, and more than 60 one-on-one meetings, the event was a good kick-off for the NEDS, which will continue next week on 18 and 19 November with the “traditional” program and a spectacular Main Stage Event. The organization is grateful for the substantive contributions of the Police, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Institute for Physical Security, Ministry of Defence, the Netherlands Defence Academy and Unknown Group.

First digital NEDS

The NIDV Exhibition Defense and Security, or NEDS, is the major annual event of the NIDV in Ahoy. But this event also diverted to the digital domain with which the NEDS 20202 Digital was created. Important for the transition is the maintenance of the network possibilities, meetings, and special sessions for the participants.

 Start-ups and public awareness campaign

For Startup Day, 20 promising startups were present, nominated by the various innovation hubs within the armed forces and other security organizations in the Netherlands. These start-ups have been offered a platform to demonstrate their expertise, and have been able to present themselves with their digital exhibition stands

The public awareness campaign for startups has also been launched with Startup Day. Until the NEDS on November 18 and 19, you can vote for the start-up and innovation which stands out the most. The winning startup will be sponsored to participate in the international Sea Air Space exhibition in the US in August 2021.

 Breakout sessions

During Startup Day, 5 break-outs were held on the themes of innovation, new solutions, and collaboration with the government. In addition to sessions on innovation during crises, predictive maintenance, and the use of VR training, attention was also paid to practical topics such as generating attention for startups and ‘corporate venturing’. These sessions will be available online shortly.

The NIDV looks back on a successful event. Despite some technical challenges involved in the transition to the digital platform, the digital “exhibition” with 20 startups, as well as the breakouts were well attended and there was a high attendance right up to the end of the event.

NEDS 2020 Digital continues on 18 and 19 November.
